Archbishop Anastasios of Albania: A Reverent Farewell at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens

A Divine Liturgy and Trisagion service are being held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens in honor of the late Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, who passed away at the age of 95.

His Eminence, Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios, leads the Divine Liturgy.

Following the Liturgy, His Beatitude Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece will conduct a Trisagion for Archbishop Anastasios. The service is attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, PASOK President Nikos Androulakis, and other dignitaries. The public may pay their respects to the late Archbishop until the coming Monday.

Funeral Arrangements

The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Albania convened an extraordinary session, declaring a five-day period of ecclesiastical mourning from January 25 to 29. Archdiocesan affairs are currently supervised by the Metropolitan of Korça.

On January 28, 2025, the Archbishop's holy relics will be transported by road from Greece to Albania, crossing the Kakavia border. Accompanying the relics are His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Apollonia and Fieri, His Grace Bishop Anastasios of Krougia, and priests Rev. Fr. Charalambos Gioka and Rev. Fr. Spyridon Topantzas. A funeral service will be held in Tirana on Thursday, as per the Archbishop's wishes.
