In his acceptance speech, Roussopoulos expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, noting that his re-election for a second term reflects confidence in the progress made since he first assumed office in January 2024. During his initial term, Roussopoulos focused on enhancing the Assembly’s visibility, fostering dialogue, and expanding collaboration with international partners.
Addressing his vision for the upcoming term, Roussopoulos underscored critical global priorities. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stressing that Russia’s war must not be normalised. On human rights, he highlighted the need to confront challenges to democracy, tackle discrimination, and address inequalities in member states.
Roussopoulos also emphasised the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern governance. Under his leadership, the Council of Europe became the first international organisation to develop an AI tool designed to assist Assembly members and promote transparency. He encouraged citizens to learn more about the Assembly’s work via its website, PACE’s Official Website.
Looking ahead, Roussopoulos announced plans to host an international conference on the impact of AI on democracy, further solidifying the Assembly’s commitment to addressing emerging technological and democratic challenges.
This re-election marks a significant moment for Greece, as Roussopoulos continues to represent the country’s leadership on the international stage.
