Two Albanian men were arrested yesterday in connection with a deadly attack on December 15, 2024, in Thrakomakedones, a suburb of Athens.

The assault, which resulted in the murder of a 47-year-old man and the serious injury of another, has now led to charges of criminal organisation, manslaughter, forgery, weapons possession, and drug trafficking against the suspects.

The arrests took place in the early hours of Monday, January 27, 2025, in Nea Smyrni and Peristeri. During searches of their homes, police uncovered an extensive arsenal, including a firearm, two Kalashnikov rifles, two bulletproof vests, silencers, drugs, and a significant sum of money—€79,500.

The attack, which occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, December 15, 2024, saw the two suspects approach three pedestrians and open fire. One of the victims was killed instantly, while the other two sustained serious injuries. Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later traced back to them.

Through detailed investigation, law enforcement discovered that the suspects had used a series of four vehicles to carry out the attack, switching between them to evade identification. They also altered the vehicle registration plates and regularly monitored the location to avoid detection.

A large amount of evidence was collected from the suspects’ homes, including:

  • A firearm
  • Two Kalashnikov rifles
  • Two bulletproof vests
  • 118 rounds of ammunition and six magazines
  • Three silencers and handcuffs
  • Knives, a TASER, and a portable GPS device
  • Cannabis and other drugs
  • A number of mobile phones and SIM cards
  • A drone and binoculars
  • Five vehicles and car keys
  • €79,500 in cash

The two men have been charged and are now in custody, facing prosecution for their involvement in the tragic incident. The investigation, led by the Sub-Directorate for Crimes Against Life and Property, continues as authorities probe deeper into the background of the suspects and their potential links to organised crime.
