On January 29, Microsoft’s new Data Center in Spata, a significant strategic investment for Greece, was visited by Ministers Makis Voridis, Takis Theodorikakos, and Dimitris Papastergiou. Accompanied by General Secretary Stellina Siarapi and Spata-Artemida’s Mayor Dimitris Markou, the ministers were briefed on the project’s progress and its anticipated economic benefits.

The CEO of Microsoft for Greece, Cyprus, and Malta, Gianna Andronopoulou, detailed the construction advancements, the overall Cloud Region investment, and the benefits from the three Data Centers Microsoft is building in Greece. The new infrastructure promises fast, cost-effective, and secure cloud service access, empowering local businesses to develop innovative digital products and enhance Greece’s economic dynamism.

In collaboration with the Municipality of Spata-Artemida, a program supporting local education, employment, and cultural heritage is underway. During the first phase, 600 students and 200 residents and workers received training.

Minister Voridis highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, noting that it positions Greece as a crucial digital hub while creating an ecosystem of synergies. Minister Theodorikakos emphasized the transformation of Greece into a new technology hub, enhancing national productivity and competitiveness, with rapid administrative actions facilitating the project’s progress.

Minister Papastergiou stressed the importance of emerging technologies and called for public-private sector cooperation. He highlighted Microsoft’s investment as reinforcing Greece’s technological ecosystem. Greece is solidifying its status as an innovation hub, attracting major company investments, and is poised to be among the first European countries to establish an AI Factory centered around the “Daedalus” supercomputer. These developments are integral to Greece’s growth and offer opportunities for returning young professionals to find jobs domestically.
