Prince Nikolaos, the third child of Greece’s last King and Queen, Constantine II and Anne-Marie, is now preparing to remarry following his high-profile divorce last year.
The Greek monarchy was officially abolished in 1973. The former royal family however, continues to be a prominent presence in society and has confirmed the wedding date, with Nikolaos and his fiancée Chrysí Vardinogianni set to exchange vows on Friday, 7 February 2025, in a Greek Orthodox ceremony at the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas Ragavas in Athens. The event will be a private affair, attended by close family and friends.
This wedding announcement comes just nine months after Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana finalised their divorce in April 2024, ending their 14-year marriage. In a statement at the time, the former couple described their decision as difficult, emphasising their mutual respect, appreciation, and lasting friendship. Despite separating, they affirmed their commitment to remaining close.
While they did not disclose the reason for their split, 2024 was a particularly challenging year for Princess Tatiana. In addition to her divorce, she also faced the disappearance of her stepbrother, Attilio Brillembourg, who went missing in Malibu, California, in May 2024. His whereabouts remain unknown, and authorities continue to investigate.
During this period, Tatiana has focused on her social impact work and mental health advocacy, while also retaining her royal title following the divorce.
Prince Nikolaos’s fiancée, Chrysí Vardinogianni, is the daughter of Greek shipping magnate Giorgos Vardinogiannis and Agapi Politi, and comes from one of Greece’s most influential families.
Vardinogianni has long been associated with the Greek royal family, frequently attending their events. She was present at the wedding of Princess Theodora, Nikolaos’s younger sister, and also accompanied him to the memorial service marking two years since the passing of his father, King Constantine.
Despite the monarchy no longer existing, Greece’s former royal family continues to command public interest. Nikolaos’s engagement to Vardinogianni was confirmed in January 2025, with the couple choosing to wed just weeks later.
His elder brother, Crown Prince Pavlos, has expressed his happiness for the couple, stating that Nikolaos is “very happy” as he prepares for the wedding which marks a new beginning, further solidifying the former royal family’s enduring presence in Greek public life.
