The Hellenic Police have played a key role in a major international law enforcement operation that dismantled two of the world’s largest cybercrime forums.
The operation, coordinated by Europol between January 28 and 30, involved law enforcement agencies from eight countries: Germany, the United States, Greece, Spain, France, Romania, Italy, and Australia.
The targeted platforms were major hubs for cybercriminals, functioning as one-stop shops where users could discuss cybercrime tactics and trade illegal goods, including stolen data, malware, and hacking tools. The main objective of the multinational effort was to identify and dismantle the operators and technical infrastructure supporting these platforms.
The extensive operation led to significant results: two individuals were arrested, seven searches were carried out, and authorities seized 17 servers, over 50 electronic devices, and approximately €300,000 in cash and cryptocurrencies.
Greek Involvement and Arrest
In Greece, authorities executed a European Search Warrant, leading to the identification of a Greek citizen suspected of being a co-operator of one of the dismantled platforms. A search of his residence resulted in the confiscation of six bank cards, a laptop, three hard drives, and a mobile phone. The seized items are now being examined by forensic experts as part of the ongoing investigation.
Both platforms have been taken offline, marking a major success in the global fight against cybercrime.
