Aegean Airlines and Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea are expanding their codeshare cooperation for the 2025 summer season, covering more than 10 routes. Starting March 30 and running through October 25, 2025, the expanded partnership will see Volotea operating five Aegean Airlines routes: two from Heraklion to Palermo and Strasbourg, two from Araxos to Lille and Nantes, and one from Kefalonia to Bari. In turn, Aegean will operate eight routes on behalf of Volotea, including seven from Athens (to Florence, Ibiza, Lisbon, Olbia, Palma, Seville, and Zagreb) and one from Thessaloniki to Barcelona.
Together, the airlines will continue to offer over 100 routes across Europe, utilizing both Aegean and Volotea aircraft. Aegean Airlines has been a commercial partner of Volotea since 2021 and a full codeshare partner since September 2024. This expanded cooperation strengthens their long-term strategic partnership, enhancing connectivity in Greece and bolstering their European presence.
Volotea’s Athens Base Closure Volotea has also announced the closure of its Athens base at the end of summer 2025 after six years of operations. However, the airline will continue offering flights to and from Athens through services operated from other cities in its network. This unexpected move comes after years of steady expansion from Athens, where Volotea has added several new routes, including year-round flights to Marseille and Lyon in 2023 and new destinations such as Naples, Brest, and Split in 2024.
Despite Athens being one of Volotea’s smallest bases in 2024, accounting for just 0.7% of the airline’s weekly capacity, the airline had planned to increase its capacity by 13% in early 2024, offering over 1.6 million seats from Greece for the year.
