Two seismic tremors, each measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, shook the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos within just two minutes of each other this afternoon.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the first tremor was recorded at 17:40. It registered a magnitude of 4.4 and had its epicenter in the sea, 21 kilometers south-southwest of Arkesini, Amorgos.

Just two minutes later, at 17:42, an identical tremor of the same magnitude was detected. This second tremor’s epicenter was in the sea, 27 kilometers south-southwest of Arkesini, Amorgos.
These consecutive seismic events reignite concerns about the seismic activity in the region, known for its geological volatility.
