Man Burning Quran Attacked Outside Turkish Consulate in London

A man was attacked outside the Turkish Consulate in London on Thursday afternoon after reportedly burning a Quran.

Video footage appears to show the man, wearing a hood and backpack, setting the book alight before being attacked by a knife-wielding assailant. Further footage reportedly shows a second person kicking the man while he was on the ground.

A social media user claiming to be the man who burned the Quran posted about the incident, saying he had been attacked with a knife and that police and an ambulance had attended. He also shared other videos of the event.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to Rutland Gardens at 2:11 p.m. on Thursday following reports of an assault. A man was taken to hospital with a finger injury, but did not suffer any stab wounds. Police arrested a suspect on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm. The suspect remains in custody and an investigation is ongoing.
