Independent Member of Parliament Konstantinos Floros has spoken out against the alarming rise of violence against women and warned that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan uses migration as a strategic tool to destabilize Greece and Europe.
Greeks were shocked when acts of violence by illegal immigrants against women occurred during New Year’s celebrations in Syntagma Square, Athens. Responding to this incident, MP Konstantinos Floros highlighted that Greece has “witnessed an alarming trend in incidents involving violence against women.”
“Respect for women’s rights and safety is non-negotiable in our society, and such crimes cannot be tolerated,” he said.
Floros attributes the decline of women’s safety in Greece to “cultural differences, as certain communities do not share the same values regarding women’s freedom and dignity,” and for this reason, “crime statistics should always be examined objectively.”
“This troubling rise in incidents is further exacerbated by the challenges of illegal migration, which undermines our ability to screen and integrate newcomers effectively,” he continued, adding that “these issues highlight the urgent need for stricter immigration controls and robust policies to ensure that everyone living in Greece respects and adheres to our societal standards.”
The MP for Larissa also warned that the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants into Greece raises serious concerns about national security as these people mostly come from regions with histories of Islamist radicalization that is aligned with the aggressive policies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“Erdoğan has repeatedly used migration as a strategic tool to destabilize Greece and Europe. The large presence of illegal migrant populations from Pakistan or other countries with strong Islamist influences could be exploited to further his geopolitical agendas. It is crucial to remain vigilant and implement robust measures to monitor, control, and address migration in a way that safeguards Greece’s sovereignty and stability,” Floros warned.
A member of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Floros said that unregulated migration poses serious challenges to Greece’s social fabric.
“The preservation of Greek culture, values, and demographic stability is essential for the nation’s future. A large influx of migrants from vastly different cultural and religious backgrounds risks creating parallel societies and undermining our nation’s unity,” the MP said.
“Furthermore, such migration often places immense pressure on public services, housing, and employment. Greece must prioritize the interests of its citizens and enforce policies that ensure controlled and sustainable migration,” he concluded.
