The General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) has announced its participation in the 24-hour nationwide strike on Friday, 28 February 2025, in tribute to the victims of the Tempi train disaster and in support of demands for justice.
In its statement, GSEE stressed that the strike aims to expose those responsible for the tragedy, ensure they are held accountable, and push for reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Confederation highlighted the need for a properly functioning rule of law and improved safety measures to protect all Greek citizens.
The union is encouraging workers and the public to take part in peaceful rallies across the country, organised by Tempi 2023, the association representing victims’ relatives. GSEE has also urged public transport unions to adjust their services to help people travel to the demonstration sites.
The nationwide strike underscores continuing public pressure for accountability following the Tempi disaster, one of Greece’s worst railway accidents.
