Greek Humanitarian Effort Brings 10 Injured Children from Gaza to Athens

Athens, Greece – February 26, 2025 – In a heartwarming display of international cooperation and humanitarian aid, ten children injured in the Gaza Strip arrived in Athens today for much-needed medical treatment. The evacuation, spearheaded by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was a complex undertaking involving multiple organizations and government agencies.

The children, accompanied by their caregivers, were initially treated at the Greek Hospital in Cairo before being flown to Greece on a special flight provided by Aegean Airlines. The operation was facilitated by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the World Health Organization, and Egyptian authorities, showcasing a unified effort to provide critical care to these young patients.

Upon arrival in Athens, the children were transported to various healthcare facilities across the country, where they will receive specialized medical attention. Their caregivers will be housed in facilities provided by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

The Greek government mobilized several ministries to ensure the success of this mission, including the Ministries of Health, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, and Migration and Asylum. The Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAV) also played a key role in the logistical coordination.

This initiative highlights Greece’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and its willingness to collaborate with international partners to address critical needs in conflict zones. While the specifics of the children’s injuries and the circumstances surrounding them remain undisclosed, the focus remains on providing them with the best possible medical care and support during their recovery.
