A shocking case of matricide has emerged in the Athenian district of Pagrati, where a 56-year-old man allegedly killed his 84-year-old mother using her wooden walking stick.
According to reports, the elderly woman was the primary financial supporter of her son. The suspect, who appeared disoriented and unaware of the severity of his actions, has reportedly confessed to the crime, offering inconsistent and irrational explanations.
The murder was discovered on Tuesday morning when police entered the family home and found the woman lying dead on the floor, her head covered in blood. Officers heard noises coming from the suspect’s room, where he was found sitting on his bed behind a closed door. Shortly afterward, he admitted to killing his mother.
Authorities have seized the wooden walking stick, believed to be the murder weapon, after finding traces of blood on it. A forensic examination will determine whether the cause of death was the repeated blows to the head or if an underlying medical condition contributed to the tragedy.
The 56-year-old suspect has been charged with manslaughter and will be brought before the Athens Prosecutor’s Office.
This shocking incident has sent ripples through the local community, raising concerns about mental health and domestic violence within families.
