Vouliagmeni, March 4, 2025 – Today, the family, friends, and colleagues of Alexis Kougias gathered to bid farewell to the esteemed lawyer, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
The sorrowful event took place at the Church of Faneromeni in Vouliagmeni, followed by his burial at the First Cemetery.
Arriving early at the church, mourners were met with an array of wreaths, symbolizing the deep respect and admiration held for Kougias. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as the renowned lawyer Sakis Kechagioglou, former footballer and Olympiacos FC strategic advisor Christian Karembeu, and lawyer Giannis Marakakis.
In a heartfelt moment, Evi Vatidou, Kougias’s former wife, stood alongside their children, Christos and Maira, united in grief. The family received the condolences of numerous attendees, each sharing in the profound sense of loss.
Kougias’s brother was also seen embracing mourners as they extended their sympathies. The presence of important figures from various sectors, including Alexandros Lykourezos, Takis Theodorikakos, Kostas Karapapas, Panagiotis Fasoulas, Giannis Kourtakis, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, Alexis Mitropoulos, and others, underscored the widespread impact of Kougias’s passing.
Adding to the somber gathering were heartfelt tributes from local officials, including the Mayors of Glyfada and Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, and former Prefect of Attica, Yiannis Sgouros.
Alexis Kougias’s death on February 28 was a significant loss, as he spent his final days in the ICU, with his health declining rapidly. His passing was met with deep sorrow from his loved ones, a sentiment echoed in touching social media posts by his son and former wife.
In a gesture of kindness and solidarity, the family requested that instead of sending wreaths, donations be made to the Elpida Foundation, a cause close to their hearts.
The news has resonated powerfully, not only leaving a void in the legal community but also touching the lives of many who knew Kougias personally and professionally. His legacy, built over years of dedication and service, will be remembered by all those who gathered to honor his life today.
