Similar Sightings in Greece
Historically, there have been reports of unidentified aerial phenomena in the region. In 1946, numerous sightings of so-called “ghost rockets” were reported over Scandinavia and parts of Europe, including Greece. These objects were often described as rocket- or missile-shaped and were sometimes observed performing manoeuvres inconsistent with conventional aircraft or meteors. Investigations at the time suggested that many sightings could be attributed to meteors, particularly during meteor shower activity. However, some reports, especially those describing manoeuvrability, remained unexplained.
In Greece, similar objects were reported in 1946, notably around Thessaloniki. The Greek government conducted an investigation led by physicist Paul Santorini. The team initially considered the possibility of Soviet missiles but later concluded that the objects were not missiles. The investigation was subsequently halted after consultations with foreign officials, and no definitive conclusions were publicly disclosed.
