Greek Cadets Under Scrutiny for Provocative Anti-Turkey Chants

According to Daily News, a group of Greek naval cadets have been under investigation for three weeks following their chanting of anti-Turkey slogans during the March 25 Independence Day parade in Athens.

The internal investigation into the incident has now concluded, with various penalties imposed on those involved.

Some cadets found directly responsible have been sentenced to 20 days of detention.. None of the cadets were dismissed.

The slogans, which were shouted by navy trainees during the national parade, quickly drew condemnation from Ankara, with the Turkish Foreign Ministry sources deemed the behaviour “unacceptable” and accused it of weakening the ongoing normalisation between Turkey and Greece.

The sources described the slogans as “impertinent” and requested a formal explanation from Greek authorities.

In response, Greek government officials distanced themselves from the incident, with one remarking that “strength is not demonstrated through slogans.”

Greece’s main opposition party SYRIZA also denounced the chants, urging a thorough investigation into what it described as an unacceptable and inappropriate act.
