On Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025, more than 92,000 vehicles left Attica as Greeks embarked on their Easter holiday travels, marking a significant exodus from the capital region.

The departure proceeded smoothly, with only minor delays reported, according to the Greek Traffic Police.

Traffic congestion was noted around midday on major routes, including Athens and Kifisou Avenues and the Ymittos Ring Road toward Elefsina. Later in the afternoon, increased vehicle flow was observed on the Athens-Corinth National Highway, particularly between Nea Peramos and Megara.

Record-Breaking Departures
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., a total of 92,489 vehicles exited Attica. Of these, 53,180 travelled via the Athens-Corinth highway, and 39,909 used the Athens-Lamia route. This figure surpasses last year’s Holy Thursday exodus, which saw 84,309 vehicles (49,300 toward Corinth and 35,009 toward Lamia) during the same timeframe.

Final Wave Expected Friday
Authorities anticipate the final major wave of holiday travellers to depart Attica on Friday morning, heading toward regional destinations. To facilitate smoother traffic flow, a ban on trucks exceeding 3.5 tonnes will be enforced on outbound lanes from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

As Greeks prepare to celebrate Easter across the country, the Traffic Police urge drivers to exercise caution and plan their journeys to ensure safe travels during this festive period.
