This Pascha season, the sacred rock formations of Meteora in Thessaly, Greece, are captivating visitors with a breathtaking new lighting system.

Located in the Trikala regional unit, Meteora is renowned for its Eastern Orthodox monasteries perched atop dramatic cliffs, forming one of Greece’s most iconic spiritual and geological landmarks. Through the “Light Everywhere” (ΦΩΣ ΠΑΝΤΟΥ) initiative, the Municipality of Meteora has unveiled an upgraded illumination system that transforms the cliffs into a radiant spectacle after dark, enhancing their natural grandeur.

The enhanced lighting not only accentuates Meteora’s striking geological features but also deepens its spiritual resonance during Holy Week. To mark Pascha, the municipality has introduced evocative displays of the Crucifixion and Resurrection at the “Xenia” recreation area, creating a reverent and mystical ambiance for visitors and pilgrims.

“Meteora and Kalabaka become the spiritual heart of Greek Orthodox Easter this season,” municipal officials declared.

Mayor Lefteris Avramopoulos, in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), emphasized the project’s respectful approach: “Meteora’s majesty requires no embellishment—only reverence. With this new lighting, we haven’t changed its essence. We’ve simply offered a clearer, more serene view of its timeless miracle, day and night.”
