Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, leader of the nationalist VMRO-DPMNE party, restated on Thursday that the “Macedonian question” remains unresolved, hinting at future intervention by global powers.
Speaking at an event in Skopje, Mickoski declared, “The Macedonian question is not closed. With strong arguments, we will reclaim what was lost over recent years, decades, and centuries.”
Mickoski frequently uses “Macedonia” instead of “North Macedonia,” disregarding the 2018 Prespa Agreement with Greece, which settled a naming dispute. He echoed similar sentiments in January to the diaspora in New Jersey. Nationalist groups and descendants of Slavic refugees from Greece often call northern Greece “Aegean Macedonia” or “White Sea Macedonia.”
