A fatal shooting believed to be a mafia-style execution shook the northern Athens suburb of Halandri on Thursday afternoon.

According to early police reports, a man was gunned down outside a private medical centre on Paleologou Street.

The incident occurred as the victim was exiting the clinic at 114 Paleologou Street. Witnesses say a car approached, and one of its occupants opened fire at close range, fatally injuring the man. Emergency responders confirmed the victim’s death at the scene.

Authorities believe the attack was premeditated and carried out with precision, consistent with organised crime methods. After the shooting, the assailants fled the scene. Unconfirmed reports suggest they later set their getaway vehicle ablaze in the Pampa area in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale manhunt to locate and apprehend the suspects. Investigators are examining security camera footage from nearby businesses and residences in hopes of identifying the attackers.

The motive remains under investigation, but sources close to the case have not ruled out links to organised criminal activity.

This incident adds to growing concerns about the resurgence of mafia-style violence in urban areas of Greece.
