Marriages in the entertainment world are not famous for their longevity, but there are exceptions, which teach lessons of love, patience and resilience, and among them is that of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who recently celebrated their 35th anniversary, according to a new Instagram post.

They met in 1981 on the set of the TV series "Bosom Buddies" and married seven years later, after Tom Hanks converted to Orthodox Christianity to celebrate a religious sacrament with his Greek-born sweetheart. They had two sons, Chester and Theodore.

Many years later, Hanks would reveal that he fell in love with Wilson at first sight, but that they married for all the right reasons.

Their romantic chemistry is also evident in the 1993 romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle," in which they co-star, although Wilson would later devote herself to producing films such as "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and her music career.

In 2020, they were among the first celebrities to get sick with coronavirus, describing their experience through social media and explaining that they provided genetic material that would help in scientific research to deal with the pandemic.

In the summers, they enjoy vacationing in Greece, where they even have a house in Antiparos, while Tom Hanks is an honorary naturalised Greek.

On their wedding anniversary this year, Wilson wrote: “35 years of marriage. April 30, 1988. Love is everything."
