Apple Maps broadened its horizons, making its navigation app available in Denmark and Greece. This expansion brings the total number of countries serviced by the app to 35.
Before experiencing the improved Apple Maps, users may have found it somewhat lacking in certain features that are crucial for navigation. However, Apple has responded by introducing enhancements to the app, including custom-designed 3D models of landmarks and more detailed directions.
One notable update is the implementation of augmented reality in turn-by-turn walking directions, which resembles Google's Street View. This marks the 20th expansion of Apple's meticulously built mapping data.
According to Apple, these updates make trip planning and navigation more enjoyable, thanks to increased accuracy, comprehensive bicycle directions, detailed views of roads, buildings, parks, and airports, as well as three-dimensional landmarks.
Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior VP of Services, highlighted that the Maps app has been rebuilt from the ground up, transforming it into a seamless and reliable tool for locating areas and places with ease. New features, such as natural language directions and Look Around, further simplify navigating from point A to point B.
Enhanced Cycling Routes in Denmark
Denmark, where cycling is a common mode of transportation, now benefits from enhanced cycling routes. The redesigned Apple Maps offers step-by-step directions for cyclists, indicating cycle-friendly roads and potential traffic on the selected route. Users are also informed about steep or challenging terrain and can easily locate bicycle workshops or public toilets.
For pedestrians, Apple Maps provides augmented reality-powered guidance to prevent getting lost. Users can simply scan their surroundings, and the app will offer directions, particularly useful for those unfamiliar with the area.
With this expansion into Denmark and Greece, Apple Maps continues to grow its global coverage. The new map data now encompasses 11.8% of the world's population and 20.3% of the Earth's land area across 35 countries, showcasing Apple's commitment to improving the mapping experience for users worldwide.
