Florina, Greece – Greek farmers and livestock breeders staged a four-hour protest on Friday, blocking the customs office at the Niki border crossing with North Macedonia for trucks only. The blockade began at 1:00 PM local time but did not affect other vehicles.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the farmers are protesting various issues affecting their livelihoods. There were no reports of major disruptions or traffic jams, as Greek and North Macedonian authorities had instructed trucks to wait for several kilometres away from the border in anticipation of the protest.
Hundreds of trucks typically cross the Niki border daily, transporting coal from a mine in Florina to power stations in Bitola, North Macedonia. The specific demands of the farmers and the outcome of the protest are not yet reported.
