Greek Cultural Month in Syria - February 2024
The Greek Cultural Month in Syria comprises the following events:
1. Two film projections:
* Première screening of the Greek historical epic film signed Grigoris Karadinakis Smyrna, my Beloved (2021), Damascus Opera House, Thursday 08/02/2024.
Other projections are scheduled at the Holy Cross Halls, Al-Qassaa, the centre of the Greek Community in Damascus, Al-Tijara, and in the cities of Aleppo and Tartous)
My Name Is Eutychia (2019), a feature film by director Angelos Frantzis, tells the story of songwriter Eutychia Papaianopoulou (1893-1972), who survived the devastation of Smyrna and fled to Athens, where she became a central figure in Greek folk music and the most beloved lyricist in the hearts of Greeks.
(The date of screening will be scheduled soon at the Holy Cross Halls, Al-Qassaa, at the centre of the Greek community in Damascus, Al-Tijara, and in the cities of Aleppo and Tartous)
Two concerts by world renowned Greek bouzouki soloist-composer Michael Paouris with brilliant vocalist Nikos Kerkenis, in cooperation with an elite group of Syrian musicians, at the Drama Theatre, Damascus Opera House, on February 27-28, 2024, 8:00pm.
“5 Greek Evenings” on February 29 and March 1-4, 2024 at the Golden Mazzeh Hotel, during which a Greek chef will serve gourmet Greek dishes and wines, accompanied with Greek music and songs performed, in Greek and Arabic, by a band of brilliant graduates and students of the Higher Institute of Music.
(The opening evening on February 29 is on invitation, subsequent evenings on March 1-4 are open to the public)
