With goodwill, beautiful ideas, and creative tendencies, the “ugly” can become “wonderful.” Some village residents had this in mind when they transformed the visual aesthetics of waste bins.
The waste bins in the traditional village of Apikia in Andros have been repainted so that locals can raise awareness among the less environmentally conscious.
The designs on them are inventive and enjoyable, and according to Cyclades24, “the inhabitants of Andros find this action very positive as they feel a more pleasant mood when they throw away their garbage.”
“Their purpose is to convey respect for the environment to everyone, young and old, and to beautify and respect the village they live in,” the report added.
Unfortunately, residents say garbage and recycling bins attract old mattresses and debris, and for this reason they decided to get active since it is a shame that tourists from other countries come and pick up their trash and even sit on the discarded sofas!
