Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas took a break from the court to indulge in his passion for football, appearing as a special guest at the Serie A clash between Genoa and Roma at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
Just weeks after his early exit from the US Open, the world No. 12 traded his tennis whites for Genoa's home jersey and received a warm welcome from the passionate home crowd.
A video shared on social media showed Tsitsipas confidently taking penalties on the pitch, even finding the top corner with one impressive strike.
Despite the exciting pre-match entertainment, the game itself ended in a 1-1 draw. However, Tsitsipas clearly enjoyed his time at the stadium, embracing the fans and sharing his long-standing support for Genoa.
"I’m very happy to be here, I’ve been supporting Genoa for such a long time, so I am super grateful for the opportunity," Tsitsipas told DAZN. "These are some of the nicest, most enthusiastic fans in Italy."
Tsitsipas' appearance at the match came after a disappointing first-round defeat to Thanasi Kokkinakis at the US Open, continuing a challenging year for the Greek player in Grand Slams. Despite reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, Tsitsipas suffered early exits at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, highlighting the inconsistency that has plagued his 2024 season.
