ATHENS, GREECE - September 25, 2024 - Aegean Airlines celebrated a major milestone today with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Aircraft Maintenance Services Center and Flight Simulator and Crew Training Center.

Representing a €140 million investment, the project reached completion in just one year, transforming the former Olympic Aviation hangar at Athens International Airport into a hub of innovation and sustainability.

The revitalized 40-meter-tall hangar, dormant for over a decade, underwent a complete modernization, including a significant energy upgrade. Now crowned with Greece's largest rooftop photovoltaic installation, the “green hangar” boasts 5,238 panels generating 3 megawatts of power. This translates to 4.5 gigawatt-hours of energy annually, enough to cover the majority of the facility's needs.

"It not only houses our expanded maintenance services, now offered to third parties as well, but also a cutting-edge training center for pilots and cabin crew."

The completion of the project marks a significant achievement for Aegean, coinciding with the airline’s 25th anniversary. The ambitious reconstruction, launched in June 2023, required overcoming numerous challenges, including insulating the expansive roof at a height of 40 meters amidst often-challenging wind conditions.
