The death toll from West Nile virus (WNV) in Greece has reached 30, as reported by the National Public Health Organization (EODY). Three additional fatalities occurred between September 18 and 25.
All those who died were over 60 years old, with an average age of 81. In the same timeframe, 12 new domestic cases of WNV were reported, along with four imported cases linked to individuals who had been exposed to the virus in Albania and Austria.
Since the start of the year, Greece has documented 192 domestic WNV cases, 143 of which affected the central nervous system.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are urging the public to take appropriate precautions.
