Momo: American street food in southern Athens

Momo

Argyris Koumousis started calling his special hot dogs "haute dogs" at his restaurant in Kallithea, southern Athens.

Momo offers the classic hot dog with caramelised onions, cabbage and carrot, hot dogs with bacon, bacon jam and cheddar cheese, and the haloumi hot dog with grilled halloumi, mushrooms and honey mustard. All with two turkey sausages or two regular hot dogs.

There is also the vegan veggie carrot hot dog with caramelised carrot baked with spices and whiskey, handmade pickles and spicy mayonnaise and onion chips.

And since the most popular American street food had a great appeal, Argyris thought of enriching Momo's menu by adding other American classics, such as exuberant sandwiches and, of course, burgers.

Of the eight burgers, it is worth trying the mushroom with fresh beef patty, mushrooms and grilled goat cheese, the pulled beef with curry mayo, as well as the crispy chicken with fried chicken. All accompanied by a whole baked potato (hasselback) and coleslaw.

Among the sweets are the amazing chocolate soufflé served with ice cream, a homemade apple pie with raisins, rum and caramel sauce, and the New York cheesecake with red fruits.

Momo also serves brunch every Sunday from 11.00 to 16.00, which focuses on egg dishes.

Momo

Eggs benedict with two poached eggs, honey ham, hollandaise sauce and chives, eggs royale with two poached eggs, smoked salmon and avocado, Turkish eggs with two poached eggs - again - put on yogurt, with aromatic oil.

The meat loaf sandwich (American roll of fresh minced beef on sourdough bread with cheese spread, fried egg), and the croque madame with brioche bread, spinach, herbs, béchamel and fried egg were the ones we tried and recommend.
