Greek authorities have recovered the bodies of four migrants—three men and one woman—following the sinking of a migrant boat off the island of Rhodes in the Aegean Sea, the Hellenic Coast Guard reported on Wednesday.
The incident triggered an ongoing search-and-rescue operation, during which Greek police have so far located 25 survivors on land. Efforts are continuing to locate any additional passengers who may have been on board.
Since 2015, Greece has served as a key entry point into the European Union for migrants and refugees from regions such as the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with nearly a million people landing on its shores during peak migration periods. The latest tragedy highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting the often perilous journey across the Aegean Sea.
