The island of Lesvos, typically a favourite destination by Turkish tourists, due to its proximity, has seen tourist numbers from the neighbouring country drop significantly.

Since the failed military coup of July 15, the numbers of tourists visiting the island dropped by more than 20 per cent according to the latest figures, from 11,850  to 2,500 July this year.

Prior to the crisis in Turkey, bookings were approaching the 14,500 mark but the political crisis has seen most of them cancelled, given recent travelling restrictions imposed on Turkish nationals by their government.
