Thanasi Kokkinakis has revealed his new Greek-inspired shorts, featuring a bold Spartan warrior motif that reflects his proud heritage.
The tennis star debuted the shorts during the Adelaide International, where he had to withdraw from the quarter-finals due to a shoulder injury. However, he hopes to recover for the Australian Open, where he plans to wear the shorts if he can play.

The Spartan warrior design is part of a collaboration with Cotton On. Kokkinakis shared that it’s a way to honour the Greek community, which has always been incredibly supportive of him. “I’m very proud of my heritage and couldn’t be more grateful for the Greek community’s support,” he said. “They’ve always been there for me, and it feels special to give something back to them with these shorts.”
Kokkinakis, known for his fighting spirit on the court, found the Spartan warrior design particularly fitting for his playing style. “Well, I do seem to love a 5-set match,” he joked when asked if he identified with the warrior on his shorts.
The matching shorts and tees are designed in a colour palette that combines the blue and white of the Greek flag with the iconic colours of Australian tennis. Fans have already reacted positively on social media, with many inquiring about how they can purchase the shorts.
While the shorts are unavailable for sale, Cotton On has set up a placeholder for the upcoming release.
As for the Australian Open, Kokkinakis hopes to reunite with his good friend Nick Kyrgios for doubles action. Despite his injury, he remains optimistic.
“If it’s anything like 2022, get ready for some entertainment,” he said. “It’s been a great start to the year here in Adelaide, and I’m looking forward to getting to Melbourne and building for the year ahead.”
