Seabed surveys for the Crete-Cyprus-Israel electricity interconnection are set to resume east of Kasos and Karpathos, with ADMIE submitting a Navtex request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This marks the return of two survey ships nearly 40 days after the project stalled, according to reliable sources.
The breakthrough follows intense diplomatic efforts between Greek and Cypriot regulators and the environment ministry, culminating in recent days. The project was halted on February 28 when Greece paused a €36 million payment to cable manufacturer Nexans, excluding an additional €20 million estimated cost for the vessels’ two-month downtime.
Nexans has been pivotal in driving the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) forward, pressing Greece to resolve delays. High-level talks between Greece, France, and Israel have also helped address geopolitical challenges, paving the way for the project’s restart.
