Henley Beach, SA – The much-anticipated documentary Anzac The Greek Chapter will make its Adelaide debut on Sunday, 4 May 2025, as part of Festival Hellenika.
The screening, which will be held at the Henley and Grange RSL, 138 North Street, Henley Beach, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., celebrates the enduring bond between Anzac forces and Greece during the 1941 Greek campaign.
This 90-minute film, directed by historian Dr Peter Ewer and filmmaker John Irwin, vividly recounts the Anzac role in defending Greece against Hitler’s invasion. Drawing on over 130 hours of exclusive veteran interviews, the documentary offers a raw and emotional account of the campaign, capturing the bravery of Anzac troops and the support of Greek civilians. Narrated by Barrie Cassidy, whose father served in the campaign, the film is enriched by contributions from historian Jim Claven OAM and Vicki Kyritsis. Produced by Melbourne’s Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee with funding from the Australian Government’s Department of Veterans Affairs, it’s a poignant tribute to a pivotal chapter in Anzac history.
The screening is a highlight of Festival Hellenika, a cornerstone of Adelaide’s celebration of Hellenic culture for over 30 years. Dr Peter Ewer will attend for a post-screening discussion, offering insights into the film’s creation and its historical significance.
