Thessaloniki, Greece – April 29, 2025 – Afroditi Latinopoulou, the outspoken leader of Greece’s far-right “Voice of Reason” party and a recently elected Member of the European Parliament (MEP), celebrated her 34th birthday on Tuesday, surrounded by an outpouring of affection from her supporters. In a post on X, Latinopoulou shared a photo of herself holding a strawberry cheesecake topped with “34” candles, captioning it in Greek: “Από το πρωί με έχει κατακλύσει η αγάπη σας με τα μηνύματα και τα τηλέφωνά σας για τα γενέθλιά μου! Σας ευχαριστώ από τα βάθη της καρδιάς μου ❤️🎂,” which translates to, “Since this morning, your love has overwhelmed me with messages and calls for my birthday! I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️🎂.”
Born on April 29, 1991, in Thessaloniki, Latinopoulou has carved a controversial yet impactful path in Greek politics. Her birthday celebration comes at a pivotal moment in her career, as she continues to navigate her role as an MEP after her party secured 3.2% of the vote in the 2024 European Parliament election, just surpassing the 3% electoral threshold required to gain representation. This result earned “Voice of Reason” a single seat in the European Parliament, which Latinopoulou now occupies. On July 8, 2024, her party joined the Patriots for Europe group, aligning with other far-right European parties, a move that underscores her growing influence in ultranationalist circles.
The X post received an enthusiastic response from her followers, many of whom used the occasion to reaffirm their support for her political mission. User @ScroogeKifissia wrote, “Χρόνια πολλά με υγεία!!! Συνέχισε τον αγώνα σου για μια καλύτερη Ελλάδα!” meaning, “Happy birthday with health!!! Continue your fight for a better Greece!” Another supporter, @DimitrisAlex_, added, “Χρόνια σου πολλά Αφροδίτη! Υγεία και δύναμη για τους αγώνες που έρχονται!” translating to, “Happy birthday, Afroditi! Health and strength for the struggles ahead!” Latinopoulou responded to several of these messages, expressing her gratitude and reinforcing her commitment to her patriotic goals.
Latinopoulou’s political journey has been marked by both achievements and controversies. A former tennis champion with 15 Greek titles and 4 European championships, she later became a lawyer before entering politics. Initially a candidate for New Democracy in the 2019 legislative elections, where she received 5,297 votes but finished 18th out of 20 candidates in Thessaloniki, she was expelled from the party in 2022 after making derogatory comments about the appearance of TV presenter Danae Barka, which conflicted with New Democracy’s official stance. She briefly served as Vice President of the “Patriotic Force for Change” but left in 2023 over coalition disagreements, eventually founding her own party, “Voice of Reason.”
Her party advocates for strict immigration policies, opposes abortion, and supports economic incentives for Greek families to address demographic challenges, rejecting immigration as a solution. Latinopoulou has also made headlines for her hardline views, including support for the death penalty and controversial statements on social issues, such as describing homosexuality as “unnatural.” Recently, she publicly supported Marine Le Pen amid Le Pen’s legal troubles in France, calling the actions against Le Pen politically motivated, and engaged in a public spat with Greek politician Adonis Georgiadis over remarks about a deceased individual.
As Latinopoulou celebrates her 34th birthday, she remains a polarizing figure in Greek politics, with a growing base of supporters who admire her nationalist stance and a significant number of critics who challenge her views. For now, the MEP is taking a moment to soak in the birthday love, a brief respite before continuing her contentious yet determined political fight.
