Mitsotakis-Macron meeting concludes after discussions about their Turkey strategy (VIDEO)

French President Emmanuel Macron once again expressed to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis the support of France in the face of the Turkish provocations.

According to government sources cited by Fortune Greece, there was complete agreement and compatibility in their central strategy towards Turkey:

"The provocations stop and the discussions begin, or else the way is open for sanctions," the two leaders agreed.

The sources added a strategic relationship were also discussed, without giving to many details.

The government sources told Fortune that Mitsotakis and Macron "have a little patience and you will hear more from the Prime Minister in Thessaloniki".

"Greece is not alone. It has many partners on its side, something that is expected to be reflected in the conclusions [of a joint declaration] of the Euro-Mediterranean Summite," the sources add.

The French President after his meeting with Mitsotakis, Macron tweeted that:

"I am happy to find Kyriakos Mitsotakis again for the Med7 summit, hosted by France in Ajaccio. Our discussions on the strategic partnership between Greece and France have been fruitful. I expressed our full solidarity with him following the fire of Moria."

Meanwhile, Macron said just hours before the meeting that the seven countries participating in the Euro-Mediterranean Conference today would push for a common European position on Turkey. Europe should be clearer and have a more united stance towards Turkey, Macron said, stressing that the EU wants to avoid escalating tensions, but Ankara needs to clarify its intentions in some areas.
