Dr. P. Roy Vagelos and his wife, Diana, have pledged a historic $400 million to Columbia University’s medical school, making it the largest gift in the institution’s history. This significant donation comes during a period of reevaluation among other donors, following controversy over the university’s response to campus protests concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict. Dr. Katrina Armstrong, interim president, emphasized that the Vageloses’ contribution is aimed at advancing science and supporting the school’s mission. The Vageloses have donated over $900 million to the institution, solidifying their legacy as Columbia’s most generous benefactors.
