Starting January 15, Athens will introduce a new contactless payment system, “tap2ride,” allowing passengers to board public transport using their debit, credit, or prepaid cards, as well as smartphones and smartwatches. This innovation, already successful on airport bus routes, aims to simplify travel, eliminate the need for physical tickets, and charge the most economical fare based on the journey. With this move, Athens joins major European cities in providing a seamless and convenient travel experience for both locals and tourists.
