HEDNO Proposes Doubling Penalties for Electricity Theft

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) has proposed a significant increase in penalties for electricity theft, suggesting that offenders be charged double the current market price for stolen energy. Under the new plan, those caught stealing electricity will be billed retroactively from the date the theft began and will also bear the costs associated with its detection. This initiative comes in response to a rise in electricity theft and aims to align penalties with current energy costs, ensuring that consumers who pay their bills do not subsidize those who do not.
