Greek passport holders, especially those living abroad, were delighted last year to learn that the validity of Greek passports was extended. As of September 1st, 2022, under Law 4962/2022, Article 87, passports issued to adults and minors over the age of 14 now have a ten-year validity period, without any change to the administrative fees.
This change brings Greece in line with international passport validity standards. The move is part of the Ministry of Citizen Protection’s broader efforts to reduce bureaucracy, streamline processes, and save on administrative costs and personnel time, while still ensuring that Greece meets its international obligations.
