This week marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of ā€˜Ulyssesā€™ by Irish writer James Joyce, widely regarded as one of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century. A committed philhellene. Joyce insisted that the cover of ā€˜Ulyssesā€™ should match the blue of the Greek flag which hung in his Paris apartment.

Completely self taught, musician and songwriter George Karantonis composed his first song at age 7, penning the poignant lyrics; “Xenos ekei, xenos kai edo, patrida nisi, to yiofiri ego” or “A stranger there, a stranger here too, homeland homeland, the adopted son”. GCT speaks to George about his amazing life’s journey from humble childhood, to becoming a member of famed band ‘Moda Blue’, his Opening Ceremony performance at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the song ‘Australia’ he composed at the request of late Archbishop Stylianos and, more recently, his historical rendition of the Greek Anthem as part of 200th Greek Independence Day celebrations.
