Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, in a meeting with Syria’s transitional leadership in Damascus, emphasized the need for new Syrian institutions to align with International Law and the Law of the Sea. He reiterated Greece’s commitment to the region’s peace, prosperity, and support for Christian populations.
In a critical diplomatic meeting, Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed key security issues, including the situation in Ukraine, EU-NATO relations, and Greece’s role as a stabilizing force in the Eastern Mediterranean. The talks underscored Greece’s strategic importance within NATO and emphasized cooperation on regional and international security challenges.
Greece has assumed naval command of the EU’s Operation ASPIDES, a joint EU-NATO mission in the Red Sea aimed at protecting commercial vessels amid rising security threats.
