Ahmet, a 17th-century calligrapher born to a Muslim family in Constantinople, died a Christian Orthodox martyr on May 3, 1682. Due to Ottoman law, he did not have a wife but had a concubine, a Christian Orthodox woman from Russia. An older Russian woman, also held captive, lived with them.
