Philippi gets green light for UNESCO World Heritage Listing

Following on from a previous news piece published in Greek City Times, UNESCO’s international committee announced in a unanimous decision on Friday- at the 40th meeting from Istanbul Turkey, that the Philippi archaeological site in Kavala is to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The exciting news for Greece was announced early Friday but was unfortunately drowned out by news of the unprecedented military coup that took place later on the same day in Istanbul, where UNESCO’s international committee had gathered for a conference.
