Greece bounce back to beat Moldova

Greece defeated Moldova 1-3 in their 2nd game of Eurovolley 2017 Qualifying. After going down 1-0 in the first set, the National Team won the next three sets and avoided their second defeat from two games.

Greece did not get off to a good start losing the first set 25-22, but went on to win the second set in dramatic fashion 27-29. The second set was extremely tight with the scores tied at 18-18 and then 24-24. Greece had the opportunity to win the set at 24-25, but failed to do so. Moldova tied the scores at 25-25 and had two chances to win the set going ahead 26-25 and 27-26. Despite down a point, the Greeks were able to keep their composure and earn three straight points to win the second set 27-29, tying the match at 1-1.

In the third set, Greece pulled ahead 12-16 with 5 consecutive points and went on to win the third set comfortably 18-25. In the fourth set, the two teams were tied at 16-16 before Greece pulled away 17-20. Greece kept their slight lead until the end of the set where they prevailed 21-25, winning the match 1-3.

After their loss to Belgium in the first qualifier, Greece earned an important victory in a must-win match against Moldova. Tomorrow, Greece will play the Ukraine in a very important match before the second and final qualifying tournament begins in one week's time. In the other group match, Belgium defeated Ukraine in the tiebreaker set 3-2.
