The Greek Orthodox Community of St George will be hosting Brisbane's biggest cultural event and Australia’s longest running Greek Festival, with more than 60,000 people expected to visit the much anticipated annual Paniyiri this Saturday and Sunday.
Musgrave Park will be overflowing with Hellenic food, aromas, music, dancing and décor, highlighting the flavours and sounds from various regions of Greece.
With over 30 food stalls, a set up of a Plateia (Greek village square), Greek dancefloor, competitions and a kids zone, it is guaranteed to keep people of all ages entertained the entire weekend.
This year the Paniyiri will also be celebrating 40 years since the Hellenic Dancers first took to the stage at the event back in 1977, with dancers who have been a part of the group throughout the years returning for a special performance.
Also there to add to the festivities is Australia's bouzouki player, Nick Paras, singer Paraskevi Kontoleon, and the Canberra Hellenic Dancers and for those wanting to get into some action- you can try grape stomping, plate smashing, Zorba-Til-You-Drop, olive and honey puff eating competitions, plus a baklava bake off!
For those who are looking for some Greek cooking tips, Melbourne’s Sweet Greek author Kathy Tsaples will be hosting a cooking program and will be joined by authors of Mezze Chrystalla Tzaneros and Sia Aristidou, Mediterranean Eating: Cook, Eat Live's Lisa Peterson and Desi Carlos, and author of Breaking Bread Aliki Vazanellis.

Paniyiri is a community initiative of the 25,000-strong Greek community of South East Queensland. Funds raised are channelled back into the community via the Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane. It is Brisbane’s oldest Greek community established in the 1920s.
