St Panteleimon Church in Adelaide destroyed by fire on Holy Tuesday

By 6 years ago

A fire has destroyed the inside of St Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church, at Glenelg North in Adelaide. The fire is said to have started around 12:30pm, after today's Holy Tuesday morning liturgy, which was carried out normally.

Multiple triple-0 calls bombarded fire crews just before 1pm with reports the St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church, on Anzac Hwy, was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters responded to the threat and found the rear of the church well alight.

Crews took 15 minutes to contain the fire and stopped it from spreading to nearby properties.

Firefighters saved the church from complete destruction but the blaze caused major interior damage, reported to be over $100,000.

The cause is undetermined and no one was injured.
