Olympiacos Mens' Water Polo Team crowned Champions of Europe

Congratulations to Olympiacos Mens' Water Polo team who have been crowned Champions of Europe after defeating Pro Recco of Italy 9-7 in the final of the LEN Champions League on Saturday in Genoa.

The Erythrolefki got off to a solid start ahead 2-1 after one period of play, however going into halftime, the score leveled to 4-4. In the beginning of the third period, the Greeks scored another two points, making it 6-4, before the Italians once again leveled the score to 6-6. A goal by the end of the third period from Konstantinos Genidounias however, saw the Greeks regain the lead with a score of  7-6.

By the fourth period, it sure that this Champions game was going to be a very close, nail biting finale. Two goals from Ioannis Fountoulis in the fourth period, put Greece further in the lead with a score of 9-6. But before the games' time was up, the Italians scored one more goal but it wasn't enough to win the game. The final score was 9-7 and Olympiacos Mens' Water Polo team won the LEN Champions League title!

This marks the second time that Olympiacos has won this title, the first win being in 2002.

Club legend Ioannis Fountoulis was the top scorer for Olympiacos with four goals in the final. Andro Buslje, Georgios Dervisis, Konstantinos Genidounias, Alexandros Gounas and Paulo Obradovic each scored one goal as well.
