By 6 years ago

Greece’s Ministry of Environment announced on Monday that demolition of illegal constructions across the country will commence in September.

According to the Environment and Energy Minister Socratis Famellos, his Ministry will call on local government authorities to hand over a list of illegal constructions verified by court decisions and ensure that demolitions proceed.

During a radio interview on Monday with Praktoreio 104.9 FM, the Minister also said that the tearing down process will be sped up as his Ministry will help in cases of illegal fencing off of land lying up to 500 meters from the shore.

Famellos said that local authorities will have a 10-day deadline to turn over an estimated 3,000 cases of illegal building, and some 800 of these relate to construction on the beach or in forest land.
