Anna Korakaki and Eleftherios Petrounias were named “Athletes of the Year,” at the PSAT Awards, while Olympiacos’ men’s water polo team won in the category of best team.
Eleftherios Petrounias, who won gold in the rings event at both the World Championships and European Championships this year, won the award for the fourth consecutive year. Anna Korakaki, world champion in the 10 m pistol event, won the award in the female category. This was her second time winning it, as she had also won back in 2016.
Olympiacos’ men’s water polo team, who won the LEN Champions League this year, were honored as “Team of the Year.” Petrounias’ coach, Dimitris Raftis, was named “Coach of the Year.”
Swimmers Aristeidis Makrodimitris and Alexandra Stamatopoulou were names named as the best athletes with disabilities, while the Greek national team in boccia won in the team category.
Angelos Basinas, Giorgos Karagounis, Kostas Katsouranis, Vasilis Torosidis, and Theodoros Zagorakis were all honored for their service with the Greek national football team.
Finally, in the “Rising Star” categories, Alexandros Kalpogiannakis (sailing) and Elina Tzengko (track and field) were honored as best upcoming male and female respectively. Both had won gold medals in this year’s Youth Olympics. In the team category, rowers Christina Bourmpou and Maria Kyridou were named as the winners, having also won gold at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
